Hinai claims gold at ASAF Youth Cup

Abdulmalik al Hinai did Oman proud when he won the gold medal in Laser 4.7 class at the recently-concluded third round of the Asian Sailing Federation (ASAF) Youth Sailing Cup finals held at the Al Hamra Marina & Yacht Club in Ras al Khaimah, UAE.

A total of 15 sailors from Oman took part in Laser 4.7 and Optimist classes.

Hinai's teammates - Adnan al Mabsali, Salim al Alawi, Ahmed al Oraimi and Alla al Amrani  -claimed top-ten overall results while Albaraa al Nofali finished 12th.

The Optimist development squad had four sailors in the top half of the 37-strong fleet.Nibras al Awaisi finished sixth, while Al Walid al Araimi, Salim Ali al Alawi and Mahmood al Gharabi came 11th, 13th and 14th respectively.

Layth al Hadhrami, Elyas al Fadhali and Osama al Zadjali finished 16th, 17th and 18th respectively.

Windsurfers excel

Meanwhile, three 15 year old Omani windsurfers excelled at the 2018 Techno293 Plus European Championships, which was held at Mondello in Sicily, Italy, recently.

Racing in the 39-strong silver fleet, Omar al Qartoubi and Mohammed al Balushi finished eighth and ninth respectively , while teammate Ali al Omrani came 16th.
